While getting ready for the start of the new school year, teachers in Katy, Texas got quite the shock.

They discovered an alligator right outside a door at Beck Junior High School.

While cops contemplated what to do, the reptile decided to explore the grounds. It left the doorstep and slowly made its way to the other side of the campus.

Deputies stayed a safe distance away from the creature. The first few attempts to corral it didn’t work out too well. The gator reportedly snapped the rope, not once, but twice.

After about three hours, they were successfully able to control the reptile. It was caught at 10:30 in the morning, but the alligator wasn’t happy to go, as it squirmed and fought the whole way to the trunk of the patrol car.

Texas Wildlife Park staffers say the gator was later taken to the Simonton area, where it was released into the wild. Even though school hasn’t stared yet, kids are already having a good laugh about it.
