Miniature armies of 300 strong ducks waddling their way to the rice fields are to Bali what sheep are to New Zealand.Where traffic is stopped on that nation's country roads by bundles of leaping woolly jumbucks herded by kelpies, here on the Island of the Gods, it is ducks marching tidily in single file on their way to work in the rice fields. These little soldiers have their eye on the flag bringing up the rear guard or taking the front line, wielded by the duck men of Bali, who keep their troops in order. For the past 40 years, Made Sutama of Tengkulak Tengah village has made a living working with these chattering, chortling ducks that he calls friends; after four decades with his little mates, he almost speaks Bali duck.
