The Phoenicopterous minor or Lesser Flamingo is a species in the Flamingo family of birds found in the Little Rann of Kutch. Inspite of the fact that numerous species of the flamingo, they are classified as near -- threatened. The reason being that they are declining in population and have very few breeding sites. Human activities are a major reason for the slow but sure disappearance of the flamingoes.
This video shows one such breeding site in the Little Rann of Kutch filmed in January 2012. This year, the monsoon was inadequate and the water in this particular breeding site dried up much sooner than anticipated. Due to this, the flamingoes were forced to abandon their nests and fly elsewhere.
