Mount Kailash at 6638 meters or 21573 feet altitude. Lake Mansarovar lies in front of Mt. Kailash. The lake freezes over in the winters and melts only in spring and is called Mapam Tso in Tibetan, meaning perpetually invincible. It is one of the highest fresh water lakes in the world and covers 412 square kilometers or 159 square miles and is at an altitude of 4588 meters / 15049 feet, a holy lake to Buddhists, Hindus and the local Bon faith,a number of Buddhist, Hindu and Bonist pilgrims trek to the holy lake every year.
