Calvin Klein Inc. is a fashion house founded by American fashion designer Calvin Klein. The company is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, New York City and is currently owned by Phillips-Van Heusen. Calvin Klein, Inc. is one of the leading fashion design and marketing studios in the world. It designs and markets women's and men's designer collection apparel and a range of other products that are manufactured and marketed through an extensive network of licensing agreements and other arrangements worldwide. The current creative director for Calvin Klein Collection for women is Brazilian-born Francisco Costa who had already worked with Klein directly before the founder's departure from the company. Costa had taken over the job in 2003. Italo Zucchelli, a former Jil Sander and Romeo Gigli designer, had collaborated with Calvin Klein for six seasons before he became head designer of the Calvin Klein Collection menswear line in spring 2004. Kevin Carrigan, an Englishman, is the creative director of the ck Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein (white label) brands and their related licensed products. Carrigan has been with Calvin Klein since 1998.
Adolfo Domínguez, born Adolfo Domínguez Fernández, is a Spanish fashion designer who studied design and cinematography in Paris, with further studies in London. He was born in 1950 at Ourense, Galicia, an impoverished area of Spain which none the less has given the country some prominent figures in the industry. He took over his father's fashion boutique in Ourense in the early 1970s. He spent the following years developing his own designs, and finally made the big jump with a presentation of his work in Madrid in 1981. He also became the first Spanish designer to open his own brand-name store in the Spanish capital, which soon mushroomed into a chain with outlets in Spain and abroad. Finally it went public (another first for a fashion designer), and became one of the Madrid stock market's hottest properties.
His style is urbane, functional, casual and eminently comfortable, making use of loose, natural fabrics. One of his key marketing strategies has been to avoid distribution through multi-brand shops and target the ultimate consumer directly, reducing delivery time and cost to the buyers. He was among the first to inject a new, fresh approach in Spanish fashion, spearheading the rise of a generation of new designers. He became famous among other things for his 1980s motto, "La arruga es bella" - "Wrinkles are beautiful".
