Ghalib Academy in Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti is a private institute that was set up to promote Urdu poetry by Hakim Abdul Hamid of the Hamdard group. It was Inaugurated by President Dr. Zakir Hussain in 1969. An art gallery with paintings by M F Hussain, Anis Farooqi, and Satish Gujralis is an added bonus. The academy also publishes books on Ghalib in English, Hindi, and of course Urdu (Diwan-e-Ghalib is the evergreen bestseller). A computerized calligraphy training center claim to turn you into an expert in Urdu typing through "exhaustive lab practice and very low fees."

Nizamuddin West is a historic neighbourhood and one the colonies of South Delhi across Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. This upscale locality is named after 13th century Sufi saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, whose dargah is situated within the area. Nizamuddin West is a posh colony. The Residential Welfare Association (RWA) of Nizamuddin is working for this area to make it more secure and peaceful for the people of this colony. The colony is divided into six blocks and has the main entry point near the petrol pump at the Mathura Road. The area is greener because it has a lot of parks. Nizamuddin Basti (Village) is in the close vicinity of this area. This colony is regarded as one of the posh Muslim colonies. The prices of the houses in this area are on a steady rise.

The enclave of Hazrat Nizamuddin in the heart of New Delhi is a medieval village or basti (settlement) named after the highly venerated 14th century Sufi saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Home to a number of medieval and Mughal era tombs and monuments, the principal attraction in the Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti is the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, an important site of pilgrimage. The Dargah is a significant repository of the cultural heritage of Sufi philosophy and spirituality and its veneration through the vernacular poetry of Amir Khusrau and the stirring Qawwali performances. In keeping with the pluralistic Sufi traditions millions from across all faiths visit the Dargah annually.

The project components in the Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti commenced following a consultative process with the local community identifying priority areas for a series of development initiatives to improve the overall urban environment of the 700 year old basti, to enhance its cultural and social identity and offer a better quality of life to its residents.
