The modern yet traditionally maintained interiors of a homestay with traditional and ethnic handicrafts and decoratings. Ngunu Ziro, an organization working towards sustainable development in the Ziro valley, has been promoting responsible tourism in the valley and the one initiative they have taken up is the concept of Homestays.

Ngunu Ziro is a community based organization registered with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The main thematic areas of its works at present are community empowerment by building their capacities; environmental conservation by promoting healthy traditional practices and awareness activities for school children; livelihood initiatives for the villages people; and promotion of responsible tourism by encouraging involvement of local people in tourism activities.

In the traditional tribal village of Tajang in Ziro Valley, things are carried out in the same traditional way as always. Apatanis as a close knit tribe hold their culture and their way of life very close to their life.

Ziro is situated in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, 167 kms from the capital Itanagar. It can be reached via road from Guwahati or Dibrugarh towns in Assam.

Just 167km from the capital, Itanagar, Ziro is one of the oldest towns in Arunachal Pradesh. Situated in a valley, it is at a height of over 5500 feet above sea level, with a beautiful view of the mountains that surround it.

Ziro is primarily home to the Apatanis -- simple, friendly and hospitable people with an interesting culture and legacy. They are a non-nomadic, agrarian tribe who share a responsible relationship with nature. Apatanis cultivate permanent wet land cultivations instead of dry land cultivations which involves burning forests. Ziro valley is lush with paddy farms and is known for its unique paddy cum fi sh cultivation where using traditional irrigation methods, farmers rear fish in the knee-deep water. Keeping them company are the adorable, shy, and harmless Indian Bisons.
