Speakers presented their case studies at the Uttarakhand Spring Bird Festival, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. The festival was held in February 2014 under the auspices of the Eco-tourism wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department, and headed by Rajiv Bhartari. This was the first Uttarakhand Spring Bird Festival and took place at the Asan Covervation reserve.

The purpose of the USBF is to highlight Uttarakhand as a crucial state for bird conservation and as a bird watching destination. It will assist in raising awareness for birds, birdwatching activity and highlight benefits through bird tourism.

The specific objectives will be to provide an opportunity for Birdwatching at Asan Conservation Reserve and adjoining areas to birdwatchers and the general public. To increase awareness about birds and bird tourism: it's ongoing and potential benefits for bird conservation and community-based livelihoods through ecotourism.
To create an opportunity for networking of bird tour operators, local community members including home stay owners and guides, and the tourism industry and planners for sharing knowledge and future planning. And lastly, to showcase off beat destination and rural tourism initiatives in Uttarakhand.

The USBF will be organized at Asan Conservation Reserve located on the Dehradun Ponta Sahib NH. Various parts of the program will be conducted elsewhere: the bird watching at the Asan Barrage and the Yamuna River; the Exhibition will be in the Forest Guard Training School park area; and the Conference and the Photography Workshop will be conducted in the auditorium.

Participants: It is expected that there will be about 500 to 1000 participants every day, over the three days. The participants will come largely from Dehradun and other parts of Uttarakhand but participants from Delhi, Punjab and HP, as well as some foreigners, is expected.

The event will be organized by the Uttarakhand Forest Department Ecotourism Wing in partnership with partner institutions (WII and BNHS, Titli Trust, Nature Science Initiative, WWF Uttarakhand), local nature and bird clubs, Tourism Departments and individuals. Forest Department and Tourism Organizations from Punjab and HP will also be invited to participate in the event.
