The runway at Paro is just 2000 meters long, so flights taking off from here must speed up very rapidly, rev their engines to the maximum extent in order to develop thrust to leave the valley which is surrounded by high mountains on both sides. The plane taxis to the end of the runway and turns around at the very end so as to have maximum length of runway ahead of it. The engines strain as it gathers momentum and takes off and gains altitude rapidly. The take-off and landing at Paro are said to be some of the hairiest flight challenges in the world!
