Pug, golden Labrador, Golden retriever, Cocker Spaniel and St. Bernard gather for a mass canine wedding at Ansal Plaza in Delhi, India.
Many pet lovers were delighted to attend the first of its kind mass wedding for dogs on 30th October 2008. It was the nation's first official dog marriage pageant! The special ceremony was organized in New Delhi at the Ansal Plaza amphitheatre. The mass wedding was hosted by Ansal Plaza to help pet lovers find mates for their pet dogs. Described to be the first mass wedding for dogs in India, the venue witnessed 500 dogs, clad in snazzy bridal outfits, bond with to-be life partners. Dogs wearing glitzy attire walked the ramp to woo audiences and win the hearts of judges. Over 400 dog owners registered their pets for the nuptials. Awards for "Most well-dressed dog" and "Best behaved dog" highlighted some of the facets of the participants and comprised one of the chied attractions for the onlookers. The event was a treat for dog lovers. The main attraction of the event was the marriage ceremony of Theo and Nano, the winners chosen by the judges after they had walked on the red carpet. Everyone showered the canine couple with petals of roses and wished them luck as well.
The pug is a breed of dog with a wrinkly, short-muzzled face and curled tail. The breed has a fine, glossy coat that comes in a variety of colours, although most often fawn or black, and a compact square body with well-developed muscles. Pugs were brought from China to Europe in the sixteenth century and were popularized in Western Europe by the House of Orange of the Netherlands, and the House of Stuart. Pugs as breeding animals may have contributed to the English Bulldog, the modern Pekingese and the King Charles Spaniel.
The Labrador Retriever, also known as simply Labrador or Lab, is one of several kinds of retrievers, a type of gun dog. They are even-tempered and well-behaved around young children and the elderly. Labradors are athletic, playful, and the most popular breed of dog by registered ownership in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States (since 1991).
The Golden Retriever is a large-sized breed of dog. They are a long-coated breed, with a dense inner coat that provides them with adequate warmth in the outdoors, and an outer coat that lies flat against their bodies and repels water. Golden Retrievers are well suited to residency in suburban or country environments. Although they need substantial outdoor exercise, they should be housed in a fenced area because of their instinctual tendency to roam. The dog sheds copiously, particularly at the change of seasons, and requires fairly regular grooming.
Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel, both of which are commonly called simply Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin. In the early 20th century, Cocker Spaniels also included small hunting Spaniels.
Cocker Spaniels were originally bred as hunting dogs in the United Kingdom, with the term cocker deriving from their use to hunt the Eurasian Woodcock. When the breed was brought to the United States, it was bred to a different standard, which enabled it to specialize in hunting the American Woodcock. Further physical changes were bred into the cocker in the United States during the early part of the 20th century.
The St. Bernard is a breed of very large working dog from the Italian and Swiss Alps, originally bred for rescue. The breed has become famous through tales of alpine rescues, as well as for its enormous size. The St. Bernard is a giant dog. The average weight of the breed is between 140 and 264 lb (64--120 kg) or more and the approximate height at the withers is 27½ inches to 35½ inches (70 to 90 cm). The coat can be either smooth or rough, with the smooth coat close and flat.
