A hospital in central France is opening a wine bar in September for terminally ill patients.

In France, it's widely accepted that two glasses of wine a day is good for your health. For patients nearing the end of their lives, it's about enjoyment.

Starting in September, the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital in France will open a wine bar for terminally ill patients.

They'll be able to enjoy a glass or two of wine with friends and family.

The hospital believes that even though the wine tastings will be 'medically supervised', they will help ease the difficulties of hospital life.

Dr. Virginie Guastella, who believes patients "are entitled to enjoy" their final days, came up with the idea.

Guastella added, "Why should we deprive people reaching the end of their lives of the traditional flavors of our land?"

Patients are excited by the prospect, and the bar has already been approved by authorities.

Along with wine, the bar will also be stocked with whiskey and champagne donated by locals.

Before opening, hospital staff will receive specialized training on how to handle patients at the bar from a social anthropologist.

If the bar is successful, doctors hope other hospitals in France will follow suit.
