Korea’s Sound “Joongjoongmori & Utmori Jangdan”

In western music, a rhythm is one of the three musical elements including a melody and chord. In Korean music, when a rhythm meats a melody, music is created. A rhythm is the most important part in Korean music because you can recognize whether the music is a court song or public song, based only on its rhythm.

This week, we are going to take a look two interesting rhythms.

“Joongjoongmori Jangdan” has a relatively fast and uplifting tempo. So it has been used for various Korean folk songs to generate a delightful and joyous atmosphere. “Utmori Jangdan,” which slightly deviates from the formal format will present you with an opportunity to experience a deviation through music.

On this week’s “The Sensation,” we are going to take on a journey to the world of jangdan, a traditional Korean rhythm which can create a form of music on itself.
