No-alcohol music festival brings Christians together in Hungary

Woodstock it is not…

No drink, no drugs and a distinctly Christian message are features of the CrossSound music festival – Hungary’s first such ecumenical event, bringing together young people and bands from way beyond its borders.

Those running the three-day event at Vajta, some 150 kilometres from Budapest, say the director of the festival is none other than Jesus Christ himself.

“This is an inter-denominational festival and it is important that everyone is represented,” said organiser Balint Nemeth.

“Some of them don’t approve of alcohol.”

What they do love is great music and the Christian message. Presenting the gospel is one of the festival’s aims.

“All over the world, festivals generally mean intoxication and having a wildly free and fun time,” our correspondent Attila Magyar explained.

“The organisers of CrossSound believe good feelings can be alcohol-free.”
