Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Rabita Committee has strongly condemned the continued arbitrary arrests of MQM workers by police and rangers from different parts of Karachi.
In a joint statement they said, “ It is deplorable that MQM workers are being arrested from their homes in the holy month of Ramazan. Some of them have been arrested from inside mosques during raids while they were praying. They are being subjected to inhuman torture in detention and implicated in false crimes. They have arrested dozens of MQM workers and supporters during the last week from different parts of Karachi. Some of these arrested persons have been forcibly disappeared.”
“Only two arrested workers have been handed over to police stations. Two of them have been sent to jail. We don’t know about the whereabouts of other workers. We don’t know where they have been taken after arrest and their condition. Family members of these arrested workers are daily going to police stations and rangers center to get information about them. No one is willing to tell anything about these arrested workers, “ Rabita Committee said.
“MQM’s workers are being presented as target killers, criminals and terrorists instead of political workers. They have started character assassination of arrested workers. It is deplorable that they are arresting innocent MQM workers instead of members of Taliban and banned outfits who are involved in terrorism and heinous crimes. They are arresting members of families when they don’t find workers in their homes. The targeted operation against is not producing the desired results because of partial actions of law enforcement agencies, “ Rabita Committee said.
Rabita Committee demanded that arrested workers should be released immediately and they should be forcibily disappeared in under the pretext of investigation. They said that they should be produced in courts. They demanded that the government should stop raids and arbitrary arrests of MQM workers.
