STORY: French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius welcomed U.S. State Secretary John Kerry in Paris on Saturday (July 26), along with the foreign ministers of Germany, Britain, Turkey and Qatar to coordinate efforts to try and enable a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas

Diplomats said there would be no representatives at this stage from Israel, Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.

A 12-hour humanitarian truce is already under way but diplomats are hoping to secure a longer-term peace.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has been spearheading international efforts to end 19 days of conflict in which 940 Palestinians, many of them civilians, have been killed.

Israel's military pledged to hold fire for 12 hours from 8 a.m. (0500 GMT) but press on searching for tunnels used by militants.

The Islamist group Hamas, which dominates Gaza, said all Palestinian factions would abide by the brief truce.
