Up in the air, anyone tampering with plane doors can be scary for passengers.
A passenger onboard a Ryanair flight to Dublin attempted to open the back door. The man, identified as 26-year-old Tomasz Mucha, was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
He drank vodka and beer prior to the flight to settle his nerves, as it was the first time he had ever traveled on a plane. However the alcohol didn’t do him much good after he boarded the aircraft.
He needed to use the bathroom but he went to the rear of the plane instead, believing the lavatory was back there. Fellow passengers watched as Mucha walked to the exit door and attempted to open it mid-flight.
The air pressure in the plane was the only thing that prevented him from opening it and potentially falling out. The cabin crew immediately pulled him back to his seat.
When the aircraft landed in Dublin, Mucha was arrested. He admitted to drinking prior to the flight and said he mistook the exit door for the bathroom entrance.
The incident occurred on July 11th. Mucha has since pleaded guilty in court to ‘being intoxicated on an aircraft, and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.’ He was fined over $250.
