A father in Ohio recently addressed the woman who killed his son in court. Instead of yelling or name-calling, Bill Walker emotionally told 23-year-old Lauren Balint that he whole-heartedly forgave her.
Bill’s son, 21-year-old Christopher Walker was killed in the early morning hours of February 24, 2013. Christopher had been out on foot and drinking when he stumbled onto an interstate in Cincinnati.
Balint apparently didn’t see him in time and struck Christopher with her vehicle. She was in a state of panic and some of the car occupants suggested she drive away. Unfortunately she took that advice and fled.
Christopher was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later found DNA and clothing fibers on Balint's car, pinning her as the suspect. She was arrested and pleaded no contest to failure to stop.
At the recent sentencing hearing, she tearfully apologized to Christopher’s parents. When it was Bill’s turn to speak, he told her he hopes she gets married and lives a long life.
Before telling Balint she was ‘totally forgiven’, Bill stated “Chris made some mistakes that night. It's so ironic, because he promised he'd never drink and drive, and he was killed walking because he didn't want to hurt anyone else."
Balint has been placed on probation for two years and had her driver's license suspended for one year.
