Two Florida teenage girls who tortured a gopher tortoise, took video of the act, and posted the clips to Facebook are under investigation by authorities.

One of the segments shows them lighting fire to the animal and one of the perpetrators can be heard saying, ‘Burn baby, burn baby.’

As the videos made their way through the social media site, horrified and enraged viewers contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

On their own page, the agency posted that they’d gotten the complaints and with the help of the State Attorney Office were investigating and determining appropriate charges.

Those could include animal cruelty and torturing or killing an endangered species as the gopher tortoise is protected.

Concerns about what the two may be capable of in the future have also been expressed.
