He holds both Russian and Australian citizenship and is a four time world Junior Welterweight champion, including a period of time as the Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion. As the son of his Korean and Mongol descent father, a fitter in a metal factory, and his Russian mother, a nurse, Tszyu was born in Serov, a town near the Ural Mountains, in the former Soviet Union. Tszyu was the first champion to unify the junior welterweight division in over 30 years. He is considered by many in Australia to be a national sports hero. On 7 December 2010, he was inducted in the prestigious International Boxing Hall of Fame for the Class of 2011.
