More than 800 foreign nationals and Palestinians with dual nationality were attempting to leave Gaza on Sunday.

They gathered at the United Nations office in Gaza City. They were then expecting to be evacuated through the Erez Crossing to Israel.

Diana Mushtaha, a Palestinian American from Texas, said they had been trying to get out since the bombing started on Tuesday.

“The worst part of everything that’s going on here is that I am in danger because of the 3.1 billion that the U.S. is giving Israel every year and we have been for six days trying to talk to the embassy, trying to talk to the consulate telling them it is not safe here and this is not life. They are living here, what, they’re there 24/7? It’s not life, they don’t know how to sleep, they don’t know how to eat, this is Ramadan, we are halfway through Ramadan. They don’t know, you know, their whole life revolves around this war and it’s been going on for too long. And the fact that we consider ourselves free while the Palestinians are suffering, it’s not right.”

Israel says it tries to avoid civilian casualties and accuses Hamas of harming its own people by hiding weapons in residential areas.
