Israel pounds Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip Saturday for a fifth straight day.

Medics say nine people were killed.

A government spokesman gave no sign that Israel would pause the air strikes, despite international pressure to negotiate a ceasefire.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ISRAELI GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN, MARK REGEV, SAYING:

"Israel is determined to see this through. Our goal is to protect our people. Our goal is to end the rocket fire from Gaza on our civilians. Hamas must understand that it cannot continue to shoot rockets at Israel with impunity."

At least 115 Palestinians have been killed so far, many of them civilians.

The Israeli shelling of a disabled rehabilitation center in Gaza killed two women and injured four others.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MEMBER OF AMBULANCE CREW SAYING:

"These are the targets of Bibi Netanyahu. These are the targets of the Jews. They are children in an organization for disabled."
