On Tuesday, a young humpback whale washed up on Palm Beach in Australia. Two days after it became stranded, the large creature was put back in ocean waters thanks to the hard work of rescuers.

The thought-to-be 2-year-old whale was fitted with a specially crafted harness. Two Sea World research and rescue boats pulled it off the sands and into the sea.

This successful effort was the fifth time rescuers from Sea World attempted to get the whale into the water. Previously, the team used ropes while trying to drag it off the sands, but the cords snapped.

When several attempts failed, the rescuers placed a canopy over the whale and covered it with water and wet blankets to keep it cool. Fortunately all the efforts were well worth it, especially when the final attempt was a success and hundreds of locals gathered on the sidelines to cheer.
