Ana Paula, a 22-month old girl from Panama, was born as a conjoined twin and the separation left her with 3 legs. The toddler has arrived in Los Angeles, where she will undergo numerous surgeries.

"Unless she received help, she wouldn't have been able to do something as simple as walk. So there are some people in Los Angeles who are making sure she has as close to a normal life as possible." [KTLA]

Ana came into the world conjoined at the pelvis with her twin. 20 days after their birth, they underwent a separation procedure, but sadly, Ana’s twin did not survive.

The surgery also resulted in Ana having three kidneys and excess reproductive tissue. A medical team at Shriners Hospitals for Children Los Angeles has worked out a surgical and treatment plan to help her live a normal life.

The Chief of Staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children Los Angeles said Ana’s left leg is functional but the other two aren't, making it impossible for her to walk.

Ana’s middle leg is scheduled to be entirely removed, while her right leg will be amputated above the knee and later fitted for a prosthetic. That will hopefully allow her to be mobile.

Dr. Phoebe Scott-Wyard remarked “I think she’ll be very functional as a walker, at the very least with crutches or with the arm crutches or something similar.”
