A peacock jumpsuit worn by Elvis Presley brought in 245 thousand dollars at an auction at Sotheby’s.

Described as being adorned with gold lamé and rhinestones, the garment is also said to still contain remnants of the legend’s perspiration.

It was worn during performances, including one in Las Vegas about 40 years ago.

At some point in time the zipper was damaged and no longer works.

Nonetheless, the suit is rare and also significant in the history of The King’s career.

It was among the intricately embellished costumes Presley wore during his 1969-1977 performance period.

That string of concerts marked his return to doing live shows after a 7-year stretch of focusing on Hollywood films.

Wanting his sold-out tours to be something especially extraordinary, he enlisted the talents of designer Bill Belew.

Belew was responsible for creating many of the looks that became Elvis’ signature during that time, including the belts and leather suits.

The Sotheby’s lot included a letter from Paul Lichter of the Elvis-A-Rama Museum and a sleeve from the album ‘The Promised Land’.

The jumpsuit was part of a music memorabilia auction entitled ‘A Rock & Roll History: Presley To Punk’.
