Award-winning American actor Eli Wallach has died. He was 98. In a career spanning 60 years his best known movie role was perhaps in ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ in which he played the “ugly” one, Tuco.
Wallach appeared on the big screen well into his 90s in Roman Polanski’s ‘The Ghost Writer’ and Oliver Stone’s ‘Wall Street’ sequel as well as other films.
During his time studying at the University of Texas, he picked up the horseback riding skills that would serve him well in later cowboy roles.
After serving in the US Army during World War II, he took classes in method acting which many say became his trademark.
Wallach said it was his portrayal of the villain Mr Freeze in the ’60s Batman television show that generated the most fan mail.
