STORY: U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday (June 22) the United States wants the Iraqi people to find an inclusive leadership to contain a sweeping Islamist insurgency but that Washington would not pick or choose who rules in Baghdad.

Kerry was speaking in Cairo at the start of a Middle East tour during which he is expected to visit Iraq, where Sunni militants have seized swathes of territory and large amounts of weaponry from Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's troops.

"We will help Iraqi's to complete this transition if they choose it. If they want, the have an opportunity to choose leadership that will represent all of Iraq, a unity government that brings people together and focus on ISIL. And I am convinced they will choose it," Kerry said.
