The Foreign Office on Thursday said that Afghan officials have assured their full cooperation on Pakistan’s request to beef up security at the border to stop movement of fleeing terrorists during ongoing military operation in North Waziristan.

During weekly briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said there is a need for better border management and parallel steps on the other side so that no terrorist could escape into Afghanistan.

Pak Army launched the offensive on Sunday, a week after an attack on Karachi airport killed dozens and marked the end of a troubled peace process.

An exodus of militants from the area had been a concern ahead of the operation, with residents and officials reporting that the majority of Taliban and foreign fighters had fled to the porous border area.

To a question regarding yesterday’s drone strike in Danday Darpakhel area of North Waziristan tribal region, Tasnim Aslam strongly rejected that drone attacks are being carried out in the tribal areas with Pakistan s consent.

She said it is completely misleading and wrong to attach these strikes with the ongoing operation in North Waziristan.
