Menswear fashion week is in full swing in London. Richard James was one of the 68 designers showing off their outfits for next year’s spring-summer collection.

The Savile Row tailor sought inspiration in the desert. The colour pallete of tan, olive and khaki was livened up with bright oranges, fuschia and turquoise.

“We wanted a slightly military feel, which always works in the men’s clothing, always looks really smart and therefore we were also allowed to destroy that by putting embroidery on it, pretty much more accent colours with different prints. So we really had to kind of juxtapose those two different feelings,” said Richard James’ managing director Sean Dixon.

Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton headlined the second day of the London menswear collections with a colourful catwalk show.

Models strutted down the runway in classic suits with a sporty edge. There was an undeniable form of punk rock in the outfits, though many of the looks, like the double-breasted suit worn with sneakers, were clever takes on the best of classic English tailoring.

There is something for everyone at London Fashion Week and James Long offered outfits for the cool, off-duty types with a collection of beachy inspired sportswear.

His upcoming spring-summer collection brought some bright colour to the runway with stripes of red, yellow, green and blue in a stylish mixture of worn denims, hooded kaftans and knits with plenty of mesh.

“The inspiration for Spring-Summer ’15 was a narrative of a fallen boxing star who had moved to the other sort of, well, easy side of life… a lot of detail, kind of leather trousers that I’ve done in knits. It was a real kind of ‘greatest hits’ in a way,” said the designer.

The boxing theme continued with hooded robes emblazoned in a graffiti scrawl that spelt the designer’s name, in a modern take on branding.

The splash of colour extended to the models, who wore bright stripes in their long hair.
