Mikey Bachman - Destination Unknown (Grains of Sand)

Walking on route along the Bolsa Chica Shoreline
I turn my head to face the waves of the sea
Tasting salt in the air with ringing in my ears
Waiting to hear the faintest whisper of your name
Amongst the crowds of people at bonfires, I look at womens' faces
Hoping I might somehow find you there
I keep pace for miles to come, searching for you
Every runner, every bike passing, every sitting couple
Discussing their problems, their jobs, their lives
I listen to them all, wonder where they're going
Who they are, and where they've been
Will I find you here?
Amongst all the faces,
Amongst all the crowded places,
staring at the sea?
Will you be thinking of me, as I walk upon you
On dusty shorelines and bedrock ridden bottoms
Will you ever be thinking of me?

I sit on the sand and read Velocity by Koontz;
His coma patient tells me,
'I want to know what it says... the sea'
Do I tell her that it is speaking of you and me?
Isn't the sand just thousands of tiny grains of rock,
Molded and broken by thousands of years at sea?
Like the memories of you and I, time has broken us
As the rocks upon waves of the sea
And with time, more time
They'll wash away what's left of me
And us, and everything we used to be
