Birds teach us perseverance
And joy through trials.
For many of their efforts
Find failure or denials.
Many a nest that has taken,
So very long to build
Is destroyed by calamity,
Or eggs found to be chilled.
But the birds do not falter—
They just build their nests again;
Lay more eggs to nest upon;
Daily praise God with refrain.
O, what beautiful lessons—
These birds proclaim to us.
To persevere when defeated,
And give praise regardless.
They obey the laws of nature
And fly home to rest.
When the season tells them,
Their migration is addressed.
They eat what’s provided them;
Follow all of nature’s laws.
Such lessons man can learn from,
So he may see his flaws.
Birds inspired man to fly—
Find freedom in the air;
Travel throughout the world,
On different wings to bear.
But of all the many lessons,
Birds teach mankind at large,
Perseverance is the greatest,
And that their Creator is in charge.
