Shakespeare died in the seventeenth century
And left a legacy of poems and plays.
Who could deny his pure genius?
He will live on in our hearts always.

John Masefield became a Poet Laureate
His poems had rhythm and rhyme.
'Sea Fever' and 'Cargoes' ~ two of his best
Will be read and enjoyed through all time.

Henry Newbolt once paid great homage
To our famous kings of the sea
In his memorable poem 'Admirals All'
Hail to the bold and the free.

A most revered name is Lord Tennyson.
'The Charge of The Light Brigade'
Was a classic about the Crimean War;
Fine works such as this never fade.

'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' was also a gem
By an author named Edward Lear.
Children of all ages delight in this poem
Which is read with great joy year by year.

William Wordsworth, Laureate and Poet Supreme
His well-chosen lines cast a spell...
'Upon Westminster Bridge' and 'Sweet Lucy Gray'
We all treasure and love so well.
