Michael Biondi - If Our Hearts Could Speak Freely

It’s the complexities of chemistry amongst
the attraction of two chests, stuck beating
for breaths beneath the flesh.
Imagine if we could bleed words
in bright reds and beautiful fonts,
if we alleviated our bodies from our
heads and undid these locks…
A clear passageway for feelings
to freely fall into place,
rather than forcing them to travel
the intricate journey to our mouths;
a trip through tongue tangling twists,
trapped by the touching of teeth.
We’re fortunate for our poetries
to even stretch to the ledges of our lips
because often they are held up,
haunted by the depths of a past kiss.

The mind is an amazingly complicated
application to ruining everything;
stopping love that hasn’t started
while stealing feelings to tamper
withtheir true meaning and intention,
leaving altered images dangling in suspension.
And we stare at these hanging portraits
as if they hold the truth of stars,
as if they were dancing from the
strings of the marionette of fate.
The heart is gorgeous, but pressed
perfectly within the chest under layers
upon layers of costumed skin and premeditated flesh.

It’s the chemistry of complication within
a war between the heart and mind…

…and the love between us is sadly its battlefield.
