Dónall Dempsey - SLEEPIES

Everything is asleep
except for the moon and ocean

who all night
wander restless

asking the eternal questions

of which there are
no answers
that definite.

The grass dozes
dreams of worms

tunneling through its unconsciousness.

The trees nod
and dream they are awake
although they sleep soundly.

The houses are fast asleep
as are their inhabitants.

Everything is made
of sleep.

The mountains snore loudly.

Clouds sleepwalk across the sky.

The world gazes
into outer space

half afraid

until morning surprises it
with the gift of dawn.

The mountain yawns
stretches itself to its full height

looks about
and sees

that everything is how
it should be.

The day gets on with its self.
