Wilhelmina Stitch - Jackless Jill

Many a Jill goes up life's hill without a Jack at all, at all.
And many a time she has a spill but no one sees her fall, her fall.
And up she jumps and smiles again and smooths the creases from her gown;
and no Jack soothes her hurt and pain, and no Jack mends her broken crown.
It's not so bad to bump one's head when Jack comes tumbling after!
Where there was one, there's two instead -and two enjoy good laughter.
But oh! 'tis hard to climb alone, heavy indeed the water-pail.
Never a sign from Jill nor moan; no one will ever see her fail.
So, Mother Goose, please write a rhyme for Jackless Jill and the load she bears;
working so bravely all the time, with me to halve her griefs and cares.
Tell her there's beauty round the bend, although the road is steep and long.
Help her to sing unto the end Jackless Jill's courageous song.
