Mpho Petrus Manwedi - Through the eye of the storm

It should have been a great day
A glorious day to be dreamed of
The sun was shining so brightly, with not a speck of cloud in sight.
But in my heart there was turmoil
The gathering of black clouds on the horizon were
Swiftly and terrifyingly drifting into my world, pregnant
with the worst of the storms and my spirit was slowly dying on me.

When the storm came, I had already given in to the waves of defeat.
The storm’s mighty hands and many like the tentacles of an octopus
Were slowly suffocating me dragging me deep into the ink-black
tempestuous world.
Then I saw you through the eye of the storm
Standing there so beautiful and majestic with a smile so
gentle and reassuring.
My dying heart started a beat, faster and faster it pounded
Like an African war drum.
And even as your embrace gave birth to my soul
the storm was lifted.
Leaving me to what was definitely a magnificent day
Yes I saw you through the eye of the storm.
