The cold chewed through
my sweater and coat
as I unclenched my arms
to reach up
and hug you.
your shoulder was warm
as well as your breath
in my ear
while you whispered 'I'm sorry'.
I let go of you
something I do regret.
Although your touch would hurt
and your kiss may kill me
I would do it all over again.
