Sidney Johnson - When The Wind Blows

When the wind blows
In the tops of trees,
Singing its familiar song,
On the fragrant breeze,
The leaves dancing
Across the forest lawn,
Denuding the trees
Til all of them are gone,
When the wind blows
And chills the bones,
We close the heavy doors
Gather round the hearthstones,
Tell the tales of long ago,
Of winters we have passed
And heavy drifted snow,
When the wind blows
And we draw each other near,
Whisper our contentment
Sweetly in each others ear,
So many winds since birth,
Blowing gentle and strong,
Never cease until the end,
And then still blow along.
Wild and free our passing mark
Then steal away our breath,
Across the slumbering soul
Carried away quietly in death.
