'You'll love this house'
The estate agent said
Almost rubbing his hands with glee
It was as if he could smell
That the sale was in the bag
'It was in the family for generations
And has lots of history
Yes, the floorboards do creak a bit
And there's a bit of dry rot, all easily fixed'
I gave him one of those looks
Having been in sales myself
'I'll walk round on my own for a bit
And phone you later with my decision'
The agent left; I heard his car
Drive rapidly up the gravel lane
I wandered from room to empty room
Thinking he was right and this was it
But when I sat down in the kitchen
A quiet voice behind me said, ' Hello'.
