In part 2 of his epic examination of the 1968 sci-fic classic, Planet of the Apes, Devin Faraci breaks down some of its iconic suspense scenes, examining the filmmaking style of director Franklin Schaffner (Patton, Papillon), while continuing his examination of John Chambers breakthrough make-up fx through rare behind the scenes footage. Devin also discusses the ironic casting of Charlton Heston in the "hero" role, playing the human, Taylor; and touts actor Roddy McDowall's incredible performances in numerous Apes films, including the TV series. Devin also notes how POTA was really the first movie to truly exploit merchandising through toys and games, before Star Wars, and how he still owns several himself. Fiinally, Devin discusses the CGI and Andy Serkis's performance in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the possibilities for it's new follow-up sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, while also explaining how Tim Burton's 2001 much-hated reboot is oddly, really closer to Pierre Boulle's original novel.
