After the mayhem underneath
the enshrouding darkness,
the beaten and the sad
collect themselves
and fraternize with the loneliness
that the elegy of hope sang,
and I wonder if it was inertia
or the dutiful hands
of the senescent night
that brought me amongst
the felled daggers
from your skies.
