Mourners gathered in Moncton, New Brunswick on Tuesday, to honor three police officers killed by a gunman last week.

An estimated 6500 people turned out to grieve Constables Fabrice Gevaudan, David Ross, and Douglas Larche.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was among the mourners in attendance.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER SAYING:

"By its very nature, the murder of those sworn to uphold the law, those who donned their uniforms day in and day out to keep our streets safe, is an attack not only on them, but upon all of us, on our families, on our communities, on our neighbors, upon our very society itself."

Justin Bourque was charged with murder in the slayings of the three officers after a shooting spree in the eastern Canadian city of Moncton.
