Queen Elizabeth II presided over the state opening of Britain's parliament on Wednesday for the 63rd time.

Members of parliament's lower house, the House of Commons, were summoned by Black Rod to attend the Queen's speech in the House of Lords.

The speech marks the formal start of Britain's parliamentary year and sets out the government's legislative plans for the year ahead.

Watched by British Prime Minister David Cameron and his coalition government partner and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Queen Elizabeth outlined the government's foreign policy goals.
