This is a 2010 Ford Escape -- it's one of the SUV models Ford is recalling.

The company said they're recalling 1.39 million SUVs and sedans in North America, most for the possible loss of power steering.

Model years 2011 to 2013 Explorer SUVs, along with 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs are included in the recall.

In addition, Ford is recalling nearly 200,000 Taurus sedans on a corrosion issue. Plus, over 82,000 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr, and Lincoln M-K-Z sedans with floor mats that may interfere with the operation of accelerator pedals.

Analysts say automakers are giving heightened scrutiny to safety issues. This, in the wake of General Motors' ongoing crisis that began with an ignition-switch problem in older-model cars.
