Google recently released a report showing employee diversity within the company. They currently have nearly 50 thousand people in their workforce.
The data shows how many women and men are working for the company around the world, and how many people of various ethnic backgrounds are working for Google in the United States.
Women comprise 30 percent of the overall employees, and 21 percent of the leadership roles at Google.
The majority of workers at Google are white, making up 61 percent, followed by Asians at 30 percent.
The remaining nine percent of Google employees in the US are Black, Hispanic, multiracial, or other ethnicities.
Laszlo Bock, Google’s senior vice president of People Operations is quoted as saying: “It is hard to address these kinds of challenges if you’re not prepared to discuss them openly, and with the facts. All our diversity efforts, including going public with these numbers, are designed to ensure Google recruits and retain many more women and minorities in the future.”
Getting statistics about employee diversity at tech companies has reportedly been difficult, and many companies have been criticized for their hiring practices when it comes to having a fair number of women and minorities.
