A scary scene unfolded in Minnesota after a school bus caught on fire on an interstate.

Witnessing any automobile on fire is, as you can imagine, a terrifying ordeal. When the vehicle is a school bus, the scene is beyond scary and that’s exactly what numerous people recently saw in Minnesota.

Fortunately the bus was empty at the time but that didn’t make it any less shocking. An onlooker's video of the scene shows the bus slowly creeping along eastbound Interstate 94 in Maplewood.

The vehicle was entirely engulfed in flames and thick, black clouds of smoke billowed outwards. Making matters even worse, the bus was headed straight towards a stopped fire truck.

The truck’s driver was able to back up at just the right moment to avoid the bus and flames. According to witnesses it appeared as though the fire started from under the hood.

The bus driver, who was outside the vehicle at the time the blaze started, walked away with no injures. Firefighters were able to tackle the flames within minutes.

An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire. Maplewood’s Fire Chief stated “You hear of close calls like that but I tell ya what, in my 37 years, I can tell you I never seen one or been there when it's been that close of a call, and I really don't want to see one again.”
