Presidential vote opens for Egyptians living abroad

Hundreds of Egyptians living abroad have been lining up at embassies in 140 countries to cast their votes in the upcoming presidential elections.

On Thursday long queues seen outside the embassy in Saudi Arabia, home to the largest number of Egyptians, point to a high turnout among the registered voters.

The overseas vote will continue over the next four days, but polls in Egypt open on May 26th.

Many supporters of presidential hopeful and former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi turned out in Amman to show their support as the voting opened.

Al-Sisi, who led the overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi last July is tipped to win.

The only rival for the top job is leftist leader Hamdeen Sabahy, who came third in the previous election in 2012.

The Muslim Brotherhood, supporters of ousted President Morsi, have said they will boycott the vote.
