The Templeton Rye Distillery in Iowa is working to create pork that tastes just like its whiskey. The company is raising 25 pigs, all of which were born in January on this year.

For one group of pigs, the farm to fork movement just took a slight detour thanks to Templeton Rye Spirits, an Iowa distillery.

The company’s goal is to create pork that tastes just like its whiskey. The distillery is raising 25 pigs, all of which were born in January of this year.

Those pigs will soon be on dinner plates. The animals are purebred Duroc, which is considered, as a breed, to be top quality for pork meat and taste. In order to get that whiskey flavor, the pigs are being fed a strict diet which integrates the dry distillery grain from the whiskey making technique into their food.

The distillery’s co-founder, Keith Kerkhoff claims that people are already expressing their interest in the upcoming whiskey flavored pork. Kerkhoff says the ‘Templeton Rye Pork Project' fits into the history involving the animal agriculture industry of rural Iowa and the Midwest.

An announcement by the distillery notes “We hope Templeton Rye fans around the country will be interested and that the ‘Templeton Rye Heritage Pork Project’ will introduce our great whiskey to a whole new group of folks who appreciate ‘The Good Stuff!”
