Fires burn in a South African township overnight as post election protests turn violent.
Police say they arrested 59 people.
The protests were sparked after hundreds of people had gathered on Friday outside a court to demand the release of other protesters arrested a day earlier.
Calm returned in the morning with local media reporting that the army had been deployed to restore order.
South Africa's ruling African National Congress won the 2014 national election.
Although the party remains popular with South Africa's black majority after dismantling the apartheid system in 1994, there is also growing discontent among the millions who remain mired in grinding poverty.
