South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma rounded off the African National Congress’ (ANC) election campaign at a packed rally in Soweto.

Despite being dogged by a corruption scandal in the lead-up to the vote, polls suggest the ANC is on course to win a majority on Wednesday, May 7.

The ANC has been the ruling party in South Africa since the first post-apartheid elections in 1994. Zuma told supporters: “there is a lot to be proud of in our country as we celebrate 20 years of freedom.”

The main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), rounded off its campaign by repeating criticisms of the current government over corruption and high unemployment rates.

DA Leader Helen Zille slammed those at the top of the ANC, accusing them of “believing they will rule forever” and “forgetting” who put them into power.

Headline-grabbing newcomers Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), led by Julius Malema, are on course to win under 5 percent of the vote, polls suggest.

Malema formed the party following his expulsion from the ANC in 2012, after a bitter fallout with President Zuma.
