A veterinary clinic in Fort Worth was recently raided after authorities were tipped off that a veterinarian was allegedly keeping pets alive solely for blood transfusions.

Jamie and Marian Harris are the former owners of one of those animals. They brought their 5-year-old dog named Sid to the clinic where he underwent a “cold laser” procedure.

After several months, his condition rapidly got worse and the family was informed he had a degenerative spinal condition and would have to be put to sleep.

"I brought him in. We had our cheerful goodbyes. We went over very specifically, our plans for burial for Sid." [KDFW]

Instead of euthanizing Sid, the veterinarian, Lou Tierce was allegedly keeping him alive to be ‘bled’ for plasma and used for veterinary testing. Marian remarked ‘The biggest hurt in all of this is the deception and what it means with something that means so much to you. Our pets are family members.’

Harris’ attorney claims there may be more cats and dogs alive at the facility, whose owners were tricked into believing her pets needed to be euthanized. Fort Worth police received a tip last week that animals were being mistreated at the clinic.

No arrests have yet been made but the investigation into the case is ongoing.
